Deleting your Shami account and data
- App name: Shami
- Operated by: ondo
This page explains how to delete your account and data in the Shami app and on the website (shami.jp). You can read it without signing in.
Deleting an account cannot be undone. If you have an active Members (paid plan) subscription, you need to cancel it before you delete your account, except for a subscription taken out under the former method (Stripe) (see "6. Cancelling Members is a separate step" below).
1. Delete in the app
- Open the Shami app and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Open "Settings", then tap "Delete account" under "Account".
- Two confirmation screens appear. Read them, then choose "Next" on the first and "Delete" on the second.
- For your security, you may be asked to enter your password or to sign in again. Follow the instructions on the screen.
When "Deleted" appears, the deletion is complete.
2. Delete on the web
- Open shami.jp and sign in to the account you want to delete.
- Open "Settings" and choose "Delete account" under "Account".
- Follow the instructions on the screen: type "DELETE" to confirm, then press "Delete".
- For your security, you may be asked to enter your password or to sign in again.
3. If you cannot use the app or the website (request by email)
If you cannot sign in, you can ask us to delete your account by email.
- Email hello@shami.jp from the email address you registered with Shami, with the subject "Account deletion request". In the message, say that you want your account deleted and how you sign in (email, Apple, and so on). Do not include your password or card numbers.
- We check that the sender's email address is the one registered to the account you want deleted. If the message comes from a different address, or if we need to confirm something, we will reply and ask for more information. We do not delete anything until we have confirmed that you are the account holder.
- Once we have confirmed that you are the account holder, we delete the account without delay and tell you by email when it is done. We usually reply to inquiries within 3 business days (excluding weekends and public holidays in Japan).
- If an active Members subscription remains, we may ask you to cancel it first (see "6" below).
Requests for disclosure, deletion, and similar rights under Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information are also accepted at the same address (Section 12 of the Privacy Policy).
4. What is deleted and what remains
What is deleted (in due course once the deletion process is completed)
- The account (login information such as your email address)
- Scores (including the original images and PDFs you imported)
- Practice records
- Recordings and videos saved in the cloud
- Your profile (display name, avatar image, and bio)
- Your member number and the name shown on your member page and name plate
- Posts you made in the feedback box
If deleting the files fails for any reason, the account deletion itself still completes, and we address the file deletion again afterward.
What remains, and for how long
- Transaction records that the law requires us to keep: kept for the period set by that law.
- Backups: erased in due course after the ordinary backup retention period passes.
- Records held by outside providers: with providers we use, such as RevenueCat, Stripe, Sentry, Apple, and Google, data may remain after deletion for as long as each provider's own retention schedule provides.
- Access and error logs: stored under the default retention policies of the cloud providers we use (we have not set a separate retention period for them).
- Free-text content such as song requests: may remain with the information that identifies the poster removed.
- Early access and release-notice sign-ups: managed separately from your account, so they remain after you delete the account, and release-notice emails can still reach you. Deleted one month after the last release notice is sent (whichever of iOS and Android is later), or 18 months after sign-up, whichever comes first.
- Stopping notices and deleting your sign-up: reply to one of our emails or write to hello@shami.jp. We stop sending immediately, keep only a record of the stop for one month, and then delete it.
For details, see Section 10 of the Privacy Policy.
5. Data on your device
- When you delete your account in the app, that account's songs, practice records, recordings, videos, imported original images, and icon on that device are deleted as well.
- If you delete your account on the web or by email, data on a device where the app is installed may remain on that device. It is removed by using "Delete data on this device" under "Data" in the app's "Settings", or by deleting the app.
- When you delete the app from a device, the data inside the app on that device (including anything not saved to the cloud) is deleted as well. Your account, the data you saved in the cloud, and your Members subscription remain even if you delete the app.
6. Cancelling Members is a separate step
Except for a subscription taken out under the former method (Stripe), you cannot delete your account while a Members subscription is still set to renew automatically. Cancel the subscription first. Where you cancel depends on where you subscribed.
- Subscribed on the web (credit card): cancel from "Manage billing" in the Members section of Settings on the web.
- Subscribed in the iOS app: cancel from the subscription management screen in the iOS Settings app (App Store).
- Subscribed in the Android app: cancel from the "Subscriptions" screen in the Google Play app.
Please note the following.
- Deleting the app from a device does not cancel the subscription, and it keeps renewing automatically.
- If you have cancelled and automatic renewal has stopped, you can delete your account even while time remains in the contract period. Paid features stop working at that point. Cancelling partway through a period gives no refund or proration (Article 4 of the Terms of Service).
- A subscription you took out directly under the former method (Stripe) is cancelled as part of the account deletion process.
If you are not sure how to cancel, contact us at hello@shami.jp.
7. Keep your account and delete only some data
You can also remove only some of your data without deleting the account.
- Scores and recordings: delete them one at a time from the lists in the app or on the web.
- Profile: you can change or delete your display name, avatar image, and bio from Settings at any time.
- Data on your device only: use "Delete data on this device" under "Data" in the app's "Settings". Your account and the data you saved in the cloud are not deleted. This removes the data on the device for every account and the guest data.
- By email: write to hello@shami.jp from your registered email address and tell us which data to delete. The identity check works the same way as in "3".
